Dunedin Hospital Ward Block

Fire Protection Upgrade Project,

Dunedin

Value of Fire Protection  $1.2 + Million

Project Manager Otago Area Health Board

The Ward Block underwent a change of use in terms of the Building Code when the Care for the Elderly unit was located on the sixth floor. Agreement was obtained from the TA to undertake a staged upgrade to the Fire Protection services. This was also a precursor to facilitate the award of a “staged” evacuation plan. This upgrade represents one of the largest scale fire protection retro upgrade to any building in the south Island

The building is located on the corner of Gt. King and Frederick St near the heart of the city. The Sprinkler System was upgraded and certified to the current design standard. A new analogue addressable Fire Alarm system with smoke detection replaced the existing manual fire alarm system and a new EWIS system was installed throughout. An Emergency Lighting system was also installed as part of the project works.

Fire Protection Engineers designed administered and oversaw the project which was provided over eighteen months period.
